How retailers can embrace the changing landscape of recruitment

It has never been harder to find the people you need, and it is only going to get harder. There are fewer people out there, and there has been a significant shift in the way candidates want to find and apply for jobs.

Retailers who take proactive measures to adapt their talent attraction and candidate experience strategy and lean into new thinking and technologies are the ones who will get ahead.

We've analysed the talent attraction and candidate experiences of 40 major UK retailers to produce a snapshot of how many organisations are embracing the challenges.

Key Findings

The industry is being held back by relying on traditional methods.

Only 13% advertise jobs on social media channels meaning they aren’t reaching passive job seekers or optimising for a Gen Z audience.

There is a considerable accessibility gap for the differently-abled.

Neurodivergent individuals make up 15% of the UK population, yet only 38% of organisations have built-in accessibility features.

Submitting a CV is still a compulsory requirement

While a large proportion enabled candidates to apply in 3 clicks or less, a staggering 78% required a CV to apply for a job.
